Your Journey, Your Choice
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you're experiencing emotional distress, relationship difficulties, trauma effects, identity concerns, or simply feel that something in your life needs addressing, therapy can be beneficial. I offer an initial consultation where we can discuss your needs and determine if
my approach would be helpful for you.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is primarily an assessment where we'll discuss what brings you to therapy, your background, and your goals. This helps me understand your needs and how best to support you. It's also an opportunity for you to ask questions and see if you feel comfortable working with me.
How many sessions will I need?
The duration of therapy varies widely depending on individual circumstances, the complexity of issues, and your personal goals. Some clients benefit from short-term work (6-12 sessions), while others find longer-term therapy more beneficial. We'll regularly review your progress and adjust as needed.
Confidentiality and Ethics
Is what I share in therapy confidential?
Yes, I maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with BACP ethical guidelines. There are limited exceptions where I may need to break confidentiality, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others or in certain legal situations. These limitations will be discussed in our first session.
What ethical framework do you follow?
As a BACP-accredited member & psychotherapist, I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions, which ensures I work with integrity, respect, and professionalism.
The Therapeutic Process
How does online therapy work?
Online therapy sessions are conducted via a secure video platform. You'll need a private space, a reliable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone. I'll provide detailed instructions before our first session to ensure everything runs smoothly.
What if I need to cancel a session?
I understand that circumstances can change. I request at least 24 hours notice for cancellations. Late cancellations or missed sessions may be charged the full session fee, as that time has been reserved specifically for you.
How do I know if therapy is working?
Progress in therapy can look different for each person. We'll establish clear goals at the beginning and regularly review your progress. Signs of effectiveness might include improved coping skills, better relationships, reduced symptoms, increased self-awareness, or positive changes in behaviour and thinking patterns.
